Guardian Holdings Limited (GHL) is once again joining with the Trinidad & Tobago Dragon Boat Federation (TTDBF) to stage the 2008 GHL Independence Day Charity Dragon Boat Regatta.

The Credo Foundation’s home for teenage boys was destroyed by fire in May 2007 and became the charity of choice for the inaugural GHL Independence Day Charity Dragon Boat Regatta in 2007. The event raised funds which were matched by GHL so that some $40,289.40 was donated to the Credo Foundation through United Way of Trinidad & Tobago. For the last 15 years the Credo Foundation has been providing shelter to children from the horrors of the street and actively assisting families in need. The Foundation runs three facilities – one for girls, one for boys and a transitional centre.

Ten to twelve teams will paddle for the cause and have been invited to give back to the community by making a voluntary contribution which will again be matched by GHL and donated to the Credo Foundation. GHL hopes that this event would go a long in raising awareness as well as funds for the Credo Foundation.

GHL will also use the opportunity to promote and maintain a green environment. Teams will be dissuaded from using Styrofoam cups and Event Recycle Bins will be placed at the site. Patrons can drop their plastics and cans into these bins so that they can be recycled.

GHL’s Independence Day Charity Dragon Boat Regatta will be held at the Kayak Centre, Chaguaramas, from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
