GHL is
committed to the preservation and conservation of our environment. It is both a
corporate social responsibility and an obligation to take pro-active steps in
preserving and conserving as well as minimising any adverse impact on our
environment.
The
establishment of the Guardian Life Wildlife Fund
www.glwildlife.org in 1992 was an early manifestation of this interest. Its
mandate is to nurture an environmentally responsible consciousness by raising
awareness of the enormous issues attached to the question of preservation and
conservation and by working with environmentalists in the field.
In 2007
the company launched ‘Project Green’ to encourage employees to go beyond mere
compliance by engaging them in corporate green initiatives aimed at reducing the
individual and corporate carbon footprint. These include several recycling
schemes, reductions in paper usage and power consumption as well as volunteerism
in national initiatives.
In 2009,
the Energy Chamber awarded GHL a Leadership Award for “Sustaining the
Environment: Making the Most of Green Opportunities Award”. The company was
honoured for its Guardian Wildlife Fund initiative dedicated to saving the Pawi
bird, as well as its nationwide “responsible waste management and collection”
drive. |
