In the advent of its Energy Launch, Guardian Holdings Limited (GHL) is hosting three Harvard Business School Students (HBS), who in a collaborative effort with the company are making their 1st of two scheduled visits to Trinidad to continue their field study on the GHL and RBTT's Energy Fund. The HBS interns' visit comes on the heels of a prior visit to Trinidad as part of the 'Harvard/ Wharton Students trek to the Caribbean', which took place in early January of 2005. This conference facilitated the students search for career opportunities in the Caribbean.
GHL used the occasion to introduce the students to the organisation and its management team, as well as to discuss the private equity initiative being led by Mrs. Kristine Thompson.
The three HBS students selected to conduct the field study are Mr. Alok Vijay Deshpande (American), Ms. Doina Rares (Romanian) and Mr. Nigel Howard (Trinidadian). The students are all final year MBA candidates at the Harvard Business School (Boston, Massachusetts) with significant experience in investment banking, consulting and corporate finance.
"The Harvard field study on 'private equity in the energy sector' is a great opportunity to expose some of the world's best talent to real-life emerging market issues that go well beyond the pristine syllabus of the class room. Our collaboration with Harvard Business School in this venture is yet another example of GHL pioneering greater levels of excellence in Caribbean business', said an enthused Jason Julien '“ Manager of GHL Business Development.
The field study is carded to run over a twelve week period, with its objectives being to identify, evaluate and implement the key aspects of the private equity fund management, focusing on, investment policy, fund structure, investment strategy guidelines and procedures, management structure and incentives, fund economics, risk/reward parameters of investment and portfolio company structure.
