Offshore Financial Services, The Answer?

The Euromoney/Latin Finance sixth Caribbean Investment Forum will on May 9th explore the question of globalization as a threat to the Caribbean, focusing in part on offshore financial services. The Caribbean financial services industry is becoming increasingly sophisticated and some economies appear anxious to define their own unique environment as a modern offshore centre. In that regard, another critical issue is whether regional authorities are getting the regulatory balance right.

Rory O’Brien, newly appointed Group CEO of Guardian Holdings Limited (GHL), will participate in what is expected to be an intense debate at the Sherbourne Conference Centre in Barbados. Mr. O’Brien has had a distinguished career in the United Kingdom in mergers and acquisitions, finance, management information and efficiency improvement. A qualified Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Certified Accountants, he was a Partner in the Financial Services Consulting practice within Deloitte in the UK and was Joint Head of Insurance in Deloitte’s consulting practice. He specialised in mergers & acquisitions, efficiency improvement projects, bancassurance development, management information and expense rationalisation projects.
