Guardian Holdings Group CEO Rory O’Brien has expressed his regret on the
passing of Company Director Dr. George Phillip on Saturday, March 31, at his
home in Jamaica.
Dr. Phillip, a Director from inception of Guardian Life Limited, Jamaica, in
1999 and of Guardian Asset Management Jamaica Limited in 2002, joined the
parent company board in 2003. He represented GHL's significant interests in
the Jamaican market where he was an executive director of Sandals/ATL Group
and the former chief executive officer of the Jamaica Observer. He was also
a Director of West Indies Alliance Company Limited.
A well known Human Resources and Industrial Relations specialist, Dr.
Phillip served as chairman of several panels of the Industrial Disputes
Tribunals and various Ministry of Labour boards and commissions of enquiry
on industrial relations disputes in the public and private sectors in
Jamaica. In 2006 Dr. Phillip published, in association with Bentham Hussey,
a revision and expansion of an earlier successful publication – ‘The A to Z
of Industrial Relations in the Caribbean Workplace’. A launch of the book
took place in Trinidad & Tobago at GHL Westmoorings.
Rory O’Brien noted that his “warm personality, genteel diplomacy and immense
Caribbean experience will be sorely missed in the Jamaican and Trinidad &
Tobago board rooms”. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday 10th April
in Jamaica.
